Why is a climate change bill a "Democrat" bill?

Why are any environmentally-geared bills "Democrat" bills? Why has one major party been attributed to being concerned with the planet's environmental well-being? And why, why, why, why is this not insulting to Republicans? Why have Republicans let Democrats hold the bulk of the weight of carrying the environmental standards and protection bills forward over the years?

Is it possible to be a Republican and still care for the Earth? Of course. And it should be popular, not looked down upon, when someone cares for the planet s/he inhabits.

The environment should not be a political issue.

Why is it that in articles such as this one, writers describe how Democrats are aligned to pass a climate change bill, and also describe worry about Republicans delaying or defeating such a bill?

Is it because at the heart of the matter, such a climate change bill is about money? And Democrats are okay with spending money, while Republicans are not? Is that it?

I won't debate whether climate change is taking place, and I wish that the bills targeting such issues were named differently. Why not call these sorts of bills "Earth Well-Being" bills, or "Let's have enough fuels so our grandchildren can live like we do" bills or "How about we improve air quality just for the hell of it?" bills.

Because no matter what your position is on global warming, the fact is that at some point, these nonrenewable energy sources like oil and coal are going to run out (that's why they aren't called "infinite energy sources"). And that's not going to be fun for anyone, unless we act now.

Okay, maybe not "now." It's true, we'll be fine for a while without other source of energy. Really.

But do you know for how long? I don't. And I'd rather be safe than sorry. Maybe some people don't care, though. Maybe they just want to wander through life and just take things as they come. Surely they won't complain when gas prices rise again, and they certainly will, and surely they'd rather destroy natural wilderness than fund research toward cleaner, sustainable energy sources. *sigh*

Just don't make it a political thing. The environment is a real issue, but it shouldn't be aligned to any specific party(ies).

This has become a Democrat bill because the Republicans want no part of it. And if this bill passes, the Republicans will want to beat the Dems over the head with it. This new tax will be a millstone around the neck of every Dem in every election for decades to come. Wahoo!

i was talking to a staunchly conservative congress lobbyist and i told them to save the national parks. Her response was to stare at me intently and ask me if i was a democrat. i was like "wtf mate?!?!" Totally agree with this post woman!
